1:23 pm - Blarga Blarga Link

LinkFighters are known, in the sword and sorcery multiverse, as hardened warriors, with more mobility and less hardheadedness then a Knight, making up any minute shift in strength for a wide gain in dexterity. Rangers live by the phrase, "know your environment" and may even prefer the wild outdoors to civilization; some have even been said to have taken the shape of "spirit animals" or "totems". Elves, by that same tolkein, are said to possess a brilliant tactitional mind in a body whose humanoid shape responds with a grace beyond the grip of all but the most hardened human warriors. This lethal combination enjoys sneaking, fighting, killing monsters, camping, fishing, and horsies.

Green is a color symbolic of the elements of earth and wood; those that make up the living base that everything else thrives upon. It would most commonly be used by Wood or Earth elves; or anyone trying to blend into a woodlands backdrop. It generally will do well in most climates.

True to his ecological nature, our friend here is wearing an outfit made entirely of 100% recycled yarn.
This item is available in my etsy shop!

12:08 pm - Jolly Roger Earrings

Because everyone loves pirates! These danglies are made from recycled plastic that I salvaged from food producers, which otherwise would have went strait into the dreaded landfill. They are not only ecologically friendly, they are an excellent addition to any outfit, though I find myself partial to goth, punk, lolitaish designs on something so deliciously evil, yet amazingly feminine.

8:28 pm - Jolly Roger & Sea Stars Earrings

Jolly Roger & Sea StarsThough the origins of this symbol are questionable, today it serves as a symbol for both piracy and poison. Use this double onton to declare your love of the open sea, danger, or just to upset the musical associations!

Likewise, before the days of GPS aps that were readily available, sailors, both pirates and otherwise navigated the seven seas using only the guidance of the stars. The never-changing waves could not provide the guidance that the stars could. Even today, many people believe that the stars hold power over individual lives, so harness that power!

In warm tones, this gem has a distinctively feminine edge, with a touch of danger. It is said that the goddess of the sea becomes jealous of female sailors, so give her something to be jealous about! Perhaps the toxins that were saved by recycling this plastic, rather then deposited in her home, will mellow her out a little. Most plastic in these earrings is actually recycled from packaging, that would have wound up in a dreaded landfill.

1:12 am - Glass Bead Alligator Earrings

Gator EarringsHere in the States, Gators are known as gentle giants, and unlike Crocks, do not regard humans as a food product. quite the opposite, there are laws in place which restrict the feeding of Gators, because it is really easy for them to associate humans with food, and stop hunting, becoming general nuisances, not to mention upsetting the natural balance. These creatures have survived some 200 million years, and as such, have gained a reputation as a "living fossil"; indeed, individuals within the species can easily live as long as humans, pushing 80! These remarkable critters will usually attack only when provoked, and could certainly teach us a thing or two about longevity and a healthy lifestyle. ;P

These earrings are created from glass beads and wiring; perfect for everyday wear!

1:21 am - Orange Soap

Oranges have been praised since the days of ancient China for their various cleansing properties. It is an astringent cleaning agent, helping to remove the build-up of toxins from the skin with a much more pleasing scent then traditional astringents. The fruit has often been cited as a key source of vitamin C, a key vitamin in preventing illness, while oranges are also cited for various cancer-preventing properties.

These soaps are made of an organic glycerin soap base and organic oranges with minimal preservatives used to prevent spoilage. It is as organic as I could figure out how to make it!

2:21 am - Vintage Flop Bunny

This little bunny has had a difficult beginning in life; his first 40 years or so were spent in the unfortunate position of a pair of stockings. What happened to him before he found his way to the vintage store is a mystery; but as soon as I saw him, I knew that he needed to be freed from his previous functional use; to find a form more pleasing to the new life that he deserved.

Made from primarily recycled materials, save for the new thread and stuffing, this little bunny would make an adorable addition to any animal collection. His eyes are sewn securely and should not, to the best of my ability, prove to be a chocking hazard. I have trusted toys of this type to everyone from newborn infants to adults, and have had no complaints. :)

This gray fabric is reminiscent of the velveteen rabbit, without, of course, the velvet. ;) Though the flop bunny had a difficult start, he doesn't want to be judged by his past. He is desperately searching for someone full of love and compassion, possibly even someone who appreciates his recycled skin, and understands that his fluffy center is as soft and cuddly as any NEW bunny.

1:15 am - Summer Fun Purse

Summer Fun Purse
This delightfully fun bag began life as a vinyl tablecloth. With it's sea-side color scheme and two large inner packets; there's room for all your deep-sea adventures or your busy workday! Vinyl is a nearly waterproof, extremely resilient material; meaning that the weather doesn't have to control your life; or at least your stuff! :D

Worked mostly in the round, with contrasting patterns around the button, just to break up the monotony. I like this bag, and being all weather-resistant makes me happy. I'm really liking knitting with various kinds of fabric; it gives a strange textured look, and a really interesting feel.

2:15 am - Mod Ducky

mod ducky As soon as I saw the pattern on this pair of socks, I knew that I had to buy them, to free them, to find the critter within. Everyone has heard of a sock monkey, but this pair just didn't say "primate". Thus, Mod Ducky was born.

This little critter enjoys disco, free love, and all things retro. He longs for a new home to celebrate his new form, and share his love for life! Howard would be proud.

The model for this piece is my younger brother, who I believe did an excellent job and is known for being particularly photogenic. He already has a lot of these little critters, but they're so fun to make for kids! I've given them out to kids his age, older, adults, newborns, ect. The first that I made for him, he took to the hospital with him when he had his tonsils out, and even the doctors loved it! They let him take it in with him after they had placed it in a germ-free bag, so that he could snuggle up and ease a bit of the fear that children oft associate with surgeries.

1:25 am - Soap!

Soap This soap I made from an organic glycerin base, lemon and lime extracts; that I got from organic lemons & limes, and green tea (both stocked and pure leaves). All those ingredients are supposed to be good for your skin; and as far as I can tell, they are! I've been using it, and I really like it. I'm thinking about selling it on Etsy, since I made a whole bunch, and I've given it away to family and friends with quite a lot still left over. I like making soap, and I'm thinking of an all out citrus batch, so I don't need it just sitting around still. This is supposed to say "calming" but I think I put it upside down when I took the pic...

12:00 am - Recycled Blue Jean Purse

Recycled Blue Jean Handbag
This is my first post, so I'm not exactly sure what to say. I have always enjoyed making things and just wanted to see, I suppose, if anyone else liked them at all. This purse I made out of a pair of old jeans, all hand-sewn with a cotton lining. I loved the decorative ties on the side, and immediately thought that it would make a cute handbag because of all the little details. I used the legs for straps, as they had a beautiful quilted look; and I thought that the 5-pocket design would be good for a handbag, because it already had a good deal of built-in compartmental storage for things like cell-phones or game systems. The zipper was actually pretty difficult to find (I'm in Appalachia, there are very few big cities in which to get special parts, everything that I could find was plastic). I like it, and I was just kinda wondering if anyone else did. ;)More picsCollapse )

I thought that I would try and make a little extra money on my crafts since I lost my job recently, so I set up an Etsy shop.  It's http://www.blargablarga.etsy.com .  Has anyone else used etsy?  Had any luck?

4:26 am - help

Yes, I've checked the Memories and FAQ, and Links section if we've got one, but I haven't found anything. If this isn't community-appropriate, then delete it.

My dilemma: I'm trying to find monster fur online, but I'd like something vibrant and colorful like in this picture.Collapse ) (I plan on making a similar scarf because it's insanely awesome).

Question: Does anyone know of an online store/fabric store/retailer OTHER THAN EBAY that sells anything like it?

I've already checked Distinctive Fabrics and Moonlight Fabrics, but their colors are too dull for my taste.

Also, I do not knit or crochet, nor do I want to learn, so "fun fur yarn", etc is not an option.

retro_color Hi, I'm new here.

I'm not sure if this is appropriate to ask in this community but I'm going to anyways. Please comment and let me know if you want it to be deleted.

I am on a mission to learn how to make my own magnets. I don't want to use glue or anything..... where can I find out how to make them?

Thanks in advance!
